Random House presents the audiobook edition of The Language of Kindness: A Nurse´s Story, written and read by Christie Watson. Christie Watson was a nurse for 20 years. Taking us from birth to death and from A&E to the mortuary, The Language of Kindness is an astonishing account of a profession defined by acts of care, compassion and kindness. We watch Christie as she nurses a premature baby who has miraculously made it through the night, we stand by her side during her patient´s agonising heart-lung transplant and we hold our breath as she washes the hair of a child fatally injured in a fire, attempting to remove the toxic smell of smoke before the grieving family arrive. In our most extreme moments, when life is lived most intensely, Christie is with us. She is a guide, mentor and friend. And in these dark days of division and isolationism, she encourages us all to stretch out a hand. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Christie Watson. Hair Transplant Surgery:What You Must Know About Hair Transplant Hair Replacement and More David Slick
From one of the most celebrated and beloved comedians and actors of our time, George Lopez, comes this hilarious, touching, and often wacky chronicle of life after 50. George Lopez just hit the half-century mark and the reset button on his life. Newly single and ready to embrace life, George was excited to turn 50. It would be a welcome new phase in his life, a chance to say goodbye to a decade that included a kidney transplant and a divorce. But when he looked around a room full of his childhood friends, all gathered to celebrate his birthday, many now bald or overweight, it suddenly hit him that he was old. What happened? And more importantly, what was he going to do about it? George learns the hard way that when you turn 50, everything changes. You pull a muscle in your sleep. You avoid mirrors at all costs, and always, always wear a robe. You have to schedule an appointment to have sex. You have to dye your hair and buy a bathtub with a door. As George learns to embrace life after 50, he invites listeners into his world, sharing the ups and downs of getting older - from his relationship with a much younger woman to a bizarre session with a pet psychic, to a trip behind the scenes at his tumultuous two years at Lopez Tonight, to an intimate look at his sacred ground, the golf course - and, for the first time, he reveals in moving detail, the story of the battle for his life against kidney disease. I’m Not Gonna Lie will make you laugh at yourself, cry about yourself, and look at turning 50 in a way you never would’ve imagined - through the eyes of George Lopez. 1. Language: English. World-renowned economist Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, explains that we have an opportunity to shape the fourth industrial revolution, which will fundamentally alter how we live and work. Schwab argues that this revolution is different in scale, scope and complexity from any that have come before. Characterized by a range of new technologies that are fusing the physical, digital and biological worlds, the developments are affecting all disciplines, economies, industries and governments, and even challenging ideas about what it means to be human. Artificial intelligence is already all around us, from supercomputers, drones and virtual assistants to 3D printing, DNA sequencing, smart thermostats, wearable sensors and microchips smaller than a grain of sand. But this is just the beginning: nanomaterials 200 times stronger than steel and a million times thinner than a strand of hair and the first transplant of a 3D printed liver are already in development. Imagine ´´smart factories´´ in which global systems of manufacturing are coordinated virtually, or implantable mobile phones made of biosynthetic materials. The fourth industrial revolution, says Schwab, is more significant, and its ramifications more profound, than in any prior period of human history. He outlines the key technologies driving this revolution and discusses the major impacts expected on government, business, civil society and individuals. Schwab also offers bold ideas on how to harness these changes and shape a better future-one in which technology empowers people rather than replaces them; progress serves society rather than disrupts it; and in which innovators respect moral and ethical boundaries rather than cross them. We all have the opportunity to contribute to developing new frameworks that advance progress.
Imagine Sting grabbing at one of the Beatles´ hair in a desperate attempt to get a piece of one of them! (It really happened!) A Sting in the Tale is the sort of book to listen to if you appreciate humor. However, if you are need of a humor transplant then, perhaps, this is not the book for you. This fully authorized memoir of Sting and Jim Berryman´s time together is, indeed, a hilariously, eye-wateringly funny listen. Just imagine a P.G. Wodehouse book, and substitute Jeeves and Bertie Wooster with Sting and Jim and you´ll have the right picture! The author is included in most of the stories, this interaction sees Jim Berryman as the stooge to Sting´s alter-ego, his real self. Not a kiss and tell book by no means but not a suck up and kiss book either , the frankly hilarious minutes cover stories of misadventure that takes an episodic approach to presenting a decidedly more down-to-earth view of Sting than we´ve heard or seen elsewhere. Sting and his best pal Jim Berryman are caught in various true-life situations that happened to them from when they first went to school together right up until Sting became one of the most successful superstars in rock history! Despite the gap between wealth and happiness, Jim and Sting have remained best friends to this day. It was at Sting´s prompting that Jim penned this biography, which tracks their friendship through thick and thin from the school playing fields to their days as trainee warehousemen. This oblique look at his friendship with Sting will hold your attention through the short, succinct, and often very funny chapters of this book. Although there´s always been a sense of mystery around Sting, this book will soon have you laughing your socks off at how the-boy-who-would-be-Sting reveals, through his friendship with the author, a side to the singer that has never been seen before. Every chapter, all 41 of them, has something to make you laugh. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Ian Fisher. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/075232/bk_acx0_075232_sample.mp3. There has never been a decade in US history so defined by so many different events as the 1960s. We experienced the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., Medgar Evers, and Malcolm X. The world stood in fear as the Cuban Missile Crisis loomed. The Vietnam War was going on, and still, we all cheered as we landed a man on the moon. Great jumps in electronics and communications. The medical world with the first heart transplant and the pill. And for the first time sports were played on faux grass known as AstroTurf. The civil rights movement, feminist movement, gay rights movement - all were happenings in the 60s. Music would know a drastic change as we were invaded by the Beatles as part of the British Invasion. The music world would explode with new sounds, and culminate at Woodstock. Pot and LSD were drugs of the day. But the hippie culture embraced them all and the one I write about in this book. Colorful clothes, long hair and beards, free love, drugs. If you could think it, well, it happened here in the 60s. Baby Boomers came about because of the 60s. The events written about in this book were lived firsthand by myself and my traveling best friend as we hitchhiked through the US in search of happenings of the day. Events are written from memories which at times were clouded over with drugs at hand. Between the White Line and the Fence Post refers to that section of road often called the breakdown lane or shoulder. Here you could stand legal with thumb extended. Behind that white line wasn´t considered part of the highway - cross it and you could be in trouble with the man. From the east coast to the west coast, from north to south, if it was happening, we were there and survived to tell our stories. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Ignatius ´´Big Iggy´´ Puzzo.
